The album, launched in June 2023, gained great reviews and airplay across the globe from BBC Music Planet and BBC Radio Shropshire via the Spanish Mundofonias to the National Radio in Colombia.
The album name ‘Tarkabarka’ is Hungarian for ‘colourful’ and represents the band’s multicultural background and diverse musical dialects from different parts of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. They show great care for the musical traditions of the Romani music and also take the listener on new adventures. Not only can Balamuc get a party started but they can keep the audience transfixed with vigour, passion and great understanding of their musical craft.
Balamuc are a unique collective of experienced musicians, with 7 members from countries in Europe, the Middle East and stretching to the Pacific Rim. Although renowned for their fierce violin and heartfelt melodies, Balamuc are best known as their life affirming, uplifting spirit and boundless energy. Founded in 2018, Balamuc started their journey as 3 members of the London Gypsy Orchestra, already bonded over their love of Balkan and Eastern European music. Together they decided to create a different line up to explore new repertoire. The band quickly grew and so did their live prowess, gaining a reputation for a huge and energetic sound. Cultural diversity is at the heart of Balamuc, they bring a unique, global take to even the most traditional of songs. Roughly translating to "House of Insane" in Romanian, the band has brought their party spirit and boundless energy to venues across the city, gaining a loyal following.
